Carew Cross

This 11th century Christian monument is considered one of the three finest Celtic crosses in Wales. It is a royal memorial and can be dated from a Latin inscription reading MARGIT EUT REX ETG (uin) FILIUS, which translates as King Maredudd, son of Edwin. Four metres (13 ft) high, the stone is incised with patterns which are predominantly Celtic in style but also reflect Scandinavian influence.
