A group of hardy horse riders, including visiting equestrians, hit the Pembrokeshire hills recently, covering 60 miles over a three-day ride from St Davids to Tegryn.
Members of the British Horse Society and Pembrokeshire Bridleways and Byways Association began their trek on June 29th from Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre, managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
The horse riders begin their journey from Oriel y Parc with a wave from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority Director of Park Direction and Planning Jane Gibson.
Before they began their journey, the Authority’s Director of Park Direction and Planning Jane Gibson said: “It’s great to see the bridleways and other networks of rights of way maintained by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, along with Pembrokeshire County Council, being used and enjoyed by members of the public and organised groups.”
“We are delighted that Oriel y Parc was able to assist with the launch of this year’s long distance ride and welcome all events such as this. We wish the riders every success on their trek.”
The sixteen riders began their journey in wet and windy conditions but the heavy rain refused to dampen their enthusiasm.
They were rewarded on Saturday and Sunday with sunshine and blue skies, experiencing magnificent views from the Preseli Hills, and a visit to the famous Gwaun Valley pub in Pontfaen.
